Dan Courtney had always heard wonderful things about the Christ the Redeemer parish and school. Going way back as a colleague and friend of Rev. Sean Horrigan, Dan is thankful to the Lord for the opportunity to both work with Fr. Sean and make a positive impact on the children, teachers and adults at Christ the Redeemer Catholic School.
Dan grew up in Livonia, Mich., a suburb of Detroit. He received his Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich., in 1995. He has both his Master of Education (1998) and his Master of Arts in Educational Leadership (2004) from Framingham State College in Framingham, Mass. Fluent in Portuguese, Dan taught in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil for several years in the late 90s and early 2000s.
He was the Pre-K and Elementary Principal at Pan American School of Bahia from 2003-2006. Coming back to the states and settling in Houston, Texas in 2006, Dan was Assistant Principal, Grades 4-8 at St. John Paul II Catholic School until joining the CtRCS family as Principal in 2017. He holds Texas certifications as both a Principal – Grades EC-12 and Educator – Classroom Teacher, Generalist Grades 4-8. He has also served on the Texas Catholic Conference Education Department (TCCED) Accrediting Team in 2014 and 2016.
Dan lives in the Katy area. His daughter Larissa is a recent graduate of the University of Arkansas, and his son Dylan attends St. Thomas High School. They are a bilingual family who speak Portuguese and English in the home. Dan is a huge soccer fan who roots for the Houston Dynamo, and loves spending time with his family.
