Christ the Redeemer Catholic School began the 2020-21 school year on
Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2020, providing families with a choice between either on-campus or remote instruction through our Virtual Crusader Classroom (VCC). The new end date is Friday, June 11, 2021. We are trying to anticipate and plan for all scenarios as we look at our 2020-21 calendar. Therefore, the entire month of June will be left open for the potential addition of instructional days, in the event of closures due to COVID-19 throughout the year.
We ask for your continued understanding as this situation evolves and as we continue to focus our efforts on the safety and well-being of our students and staff members. This webpage is a living document and will continue to be updated.
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to us at
281-469-8440 or [email protected].
Read our guidelines for when and how long to quarantine, including for vaccinated and previously positive persons.
Any faculty, staff, student, or campus visitor who is lab-confirmed to have COVID-19
must stay at home throughout the infection period, and cannot return to campus until
the school screens the individual to determine if the below conditions for campus
re-entry have been met:
A health official will perform contact tracing to the extent possible following a lab-confirmed case on campus. The cohort exposed to the lab-confirmed case may start learning virtually from home until the tracing is complete and we have confirmation that it is safe for the cohort to return to school.
If a student exhibits COVID-19 symptoms, they will be presumed positive. Parents will be contacted to arrange for immediate dismissal from school. Parents must arrange for their students to be tested for COVID-19 or arrange a consultation with a medical professional within a 24-hour period. The student may not return to school until cleared by a medical professional or until receiving a negative COVID-19 result. Test results may be forwarded to [email protected] prior to the student returning to campus or students may bring results upon their return to school.
In the scenario of a positive COVID-19 case or individual with symptoms among a household member of one of our students, the following conditions must be met before returning to campus*:
* These guidelines apply to faculty and staff as well.
Anyone who has had close contact with someone who is lab-confirmed to have
COVID-19 should follow Presumed Positive expectations.
A close contact situation is defined as:
Finally, it is important to note that any student who must quarantine at home for any period of time will begin learning through our Virtual Crusader Classroom, given that he/she is feeling well enough to do so. The teachers and administration will help the student transition to this new mode of learning.
Please see the documents below for a further explanation of confirmed and presumptive cases, along with what constitutes as "close contact" and finally a helpful self-screening diagram.
Mask Recommendations
Here are a few masks we like and recommend for children. Click on the images to visit the stores' websites for prices and sizes. Please note: Neck gaiters and porous material masks (i.e. lace) are not acceptable face coverings. Administration reserves the right to deem a mask appropriate or not appropriate for school.
Dismissal
Committed to our Catholic Identity and forming leaders who proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ, CtRCS students will continue to attend mass weekly. In the beginning days of our school year, students will attend mass virtually though our parish's livestream in their homerooms. Our school mass will be celebrated on Wednesday mornings at 9 a.m. It is our hope that as the academic year progresses our school community will once again be able to join our parish community in celebrating Mass in person.

CtRCS will continue to offer before and after school care through BASP. We encourage families to utilize these services only if truly needed. BASP will operate under all of the same safety protocols as the school day. Our BASP Director will communicate regularly with registered BASP families regarding procedures and safety measures in place.
BASP registration is now open through ParentsWeb. To assist in our planning please register as soon as possible.
Before School Hours: 7-7:40 a.m.
After School Hours: 3:25-6 p.m.
Note: Dismissal for aftercare will begin at 4 pm. If your child needs to be released/picked-up before 4 p.m., please make arrangements to utilize the car line.
Time is displayed in averaged minutes per day, with the exception of Enrichment
There will be three points of entry for students based on grade level. Parents will have to drop each child off at the designated grade level line (siblings can not get out of the car unless that is their grade level entry point).
Yes. Families will be required to answer the health screening questions, and a touch-less temperature will be taken. See below for a list of symptoms of COVID-19 from the CDC:
Fever (100* or greater)
Chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue Muscle or body aches
Headache New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Abdominal pain
Diarrhea
This health screening checklist can also be found on the back of your carline tag. Please review these symptoms EACH morning to ensure your child(ren) are arriving at school symptom-free.
Yes. All students will be required to wear a mask upon entering the building, at times of transition during the school day and at dismissal. Students in grades 1-8 will be required to wear a mask throughout the school day.
Spare masks for both children and adults are available in the nurse's office.
The term cohort refers to each individual homeroom. Students will remain in their homeroom cohort throughout the entire day. This is important to reduce the risk of infection by limiting the number of individuals a student comes in contact with.
The school will have additional signage on the floor and around the campus reinforcing social distancing. In the classroom, student seating will face the same direction and be spaced 6-feet apart. However, students may sit as close as 3-feet apart if they are wearing masks.
In order to prevent the crossing of homeroom cohorts and exposure to multiple rooms and surfaces, students will remain in their assigned cohort classrooms for as much as possible. Teachers will move between classrooms to provide content-specific instruction. Students do travel to the Redeemer Activity Center for PE, and beginning in November, attend Fine Arts class in the Redeemer Activity Center Music Room.
Yes. Enrichment teachers will move from class to class. Students will transition with their homeroom cohort to the Redeemer Activity Center for PE.
Students in grades 1-8 will eat lunch in the classrooms. Students in Pre-K and Kindergarten will eat at assigned tables and seats in the Parish Hall at specific times. When weather and space permits, students may eat lunch outdoors.
Yes. CtRCS will continue to partner with Justus and Co. to provide a hot lunch option for our CtRCS families. Hot lunches will be packaged in “sack lunch” type packaging.
Yes. Students will have outdoor recess every day weather permitting. Students will remain in their homeroom cohort for recess and will participate in socially distanced activities, allowing for mask breaks.
No. Locker use will be discontinued for the 2020-21 school year.
No. Visitors and guests will not be allowed on campus; this includes parents dropping off forgotten items from home.
Rooms will be disinfected each evening through our contracted cleaning company. Teachers will be provided with disinfectant and sanitizer and will be asked to disinfect the surfaces of the classroom during the school day. Manipulatives or toys used by younger children will be sanitized after use with a food-grade sanitizer.
Only middle school students may use rolling backpacks due to the loss of their lockers. Pre-K, Kindergarten, and elementary students may not use rolling backpacks as they don't hang well on the hallway hangers.
Yes.
No, we are a closed campus, so there will be no visitors allowed on campus. Furthermore, contract tracers would not try to speak directly with a child, they would reach out to the adults.
When a COVID-19 test is needed for a student, he or she must get a diagnostic test. While families are welcome to get an antibody test for their own information, the results of an antibody test have no bearing on the protocols or requirements for students learning on campus. For example, if a parent provides an antibody test showing a student has had the virus, this student will still have to wear a mask and follow all the same safety protocols as his/her peers.
For more information on testing types, please take a look at the following link: https://www.fda.gov/consumers/consumer-updates/coronavirus-testing-basics
Depending on the type of test, and turn around time, there are plenty of options around the area. Your best bet is to simply do a google search to find out the location, and type of test you are looking for. These vary based on whether or not an appointment is needed, turn around time, limitations on who can get tested, as well as drive-through options
This is not something we can ensure, just as we can’t ensure that families are following any specific protocols at home or during their outings.
Yes, but their cohort will be their grade level, as we have very small numbers of students enrolled in aftercare.
We limit the number of students in the hallways, the entry points and exit points, and have removed as many transitions as possible. In addition, all students are required to wear a mask in the hallways.
Students who are out of school with issues unrelated to COVID-19 may not participate virtually for the day(s) as this would place an additional burden on the teacher to manage a fluctuating group of virtual learners each day. If a student will be absent for an extended period of time due to COVID-19-related issues, then yes, they will be allowed to join the class virtually.
All lunches will be delivered to the classrooms, with the exception of PreK and Kindergarten who will eat in the Parish Hall.
Yes. Families will be able to select either on-campus instruction or remote instruction through the Virtual Crusader Classroom (VCC). If a family selects the VCC, it is important to know that selection is for the first nine weeks of school. Families will be asked to choose again for the second quarter.
No. The VCC will offer students real-time instruction and virtual interaction with students inside the classroom. There are clear guidelines and expectations that families will be expected to adhere to if they participate in the VCC.
Crusaders enrolled in the VCC will need internet access from 8 a.m.-3:25 p.m Monday through Friday. Each student should have a proper learning environment such as a table or desk for the student to use. Other supplies include a Chromebook (or other designated device for each individual learner) and headphones. CtRCS will provide materials/books/supplies included in the supply fee, such as textbooks, workbooks, journals, pencils, etc. However, families may find it necessary to replenish these supplies at various times throughout the school year.
No. If you select remote instruction through the VCC that selection is for the first nine weeks. At the completion of the nine-week quarter, you can then elect to move your child to on-campus instruction.
No. The video will focus on the teacher and his/her instruction. Your child may be part of small group cooperative learning via Google Meet or Zoom with classmates who are learning from home.
All examples of headsets/headphones can be found on our school website, under Supply Lists: https://ctrschool.com/supplylists
Teachers are doing their best to be mindful of the need to print and will limit this as much as possible. When something is needed for printing, they will make sure to include it in the Friday Flocknote for the next week.
No, only students in 2nd-8th grade will receive direct instruction in Spanish. However, we encourage everyone to consistently check out the enrichment website for great independent activities to complete, which include some Spanish lessons.
Please use your cell phone to email your child's homeroom teacher and copy [email protected] for attendance purposes. You can also call the school (281-469-8440) and let the front desk know.
All of the art projects may be done with supplies that are kept at home, such as crayons, pencils, erasers, markers, color pencils, scissors, glue, paper, water, and paintbrushes. In addition, the teacher will offer options for ways to complete the art pieces using materials that may not be on hand.
Yes, all students should be in regular uniform on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. They must be in Mass uniforms on Wednesdays, starting September 16th, and may wear Spirit shirts with uniform bottoms on Fridays.
We encourage families to make use of the Harris County Public Library System as they even do curbside pick up.
Grades for students in 1st-8th grade can be checked via ParentsWeb and will be updated at least once a week. For more information about your child’s progress in Kindergarten and PreK, please reach out directly to your child’s teacher.
All students at CtRCS are given a google account. These credentials enable them to use any device that has a chrome browser. In addition, after the first week of school, students will be sent a sheet of URLs and login credentials for each of the different curriculum resources.
